What's in the bag?
First let me stress that photography is not about equipment. Kit is simply a means to an end, namely making photographs and that is all it is.
However in response to numerous queries about what’s my favourite camera outfit or if you like “What’s in the bag?”, here are the ones I am using most often at the moment in order of frequency.
35mm rangefinder - Contax G2 with Zeiss Planar 35mm f2 in a Contax ERC (Ever Ready Case) - the rest of the outfit comprising five lenses (Zeiss Hologon 16mm + Finder, Zeiss Biogon 21mm + Finder, Zeiss Biogon 28mm f2.8, Zeiss Planar 45mm f2 and Zeiss Sonnar 90mm f2.8) plus Contax TLA200 Flash, Cable Switch L-30, Spare CR2 Lithium Batteries, and 16 rolls of film are all carried in a Kata Format Q Waist Pack illustrated above. Note: I have added a second G2 body so I typically load one with 400 ISO film and one with 1600 ISO film.
120 roll film - Fujifilm Professional 645zi with built in Fujinon 55-90mm f4.5-6.9 Zoom with a Hama Pro cable release plus spare film and batteries in an old Lowe Pro bag of some sort I had lying around.
35mm compact - Contax T3 c/w Zeiss Sonnar 35mm f2.8 in its own supplied carry case.
Anti Wobble - Manfrotto Neotec Tripod with Grip Ball Head and Bag
Film - Fujicolor Pro 400H, 800Z and Superia 1600, Kodak Portra 800.
Be aware that I am notoriously fickle and my favourites change over time. What I am using today may well change tomorrow e.g. if I were to take up animal work, I would choose a film SLR and long lenses and that would be my favourite for those sorts of subjects at that time.
Are any of the outfits above magical like the sword excalibur and imbued with mystical photo making powers? Nope! That’s called technical knowledge and artistic skill which comes with much practice of the craft.
So there you have it. Now let’s forget equipment and get on with our favourite pass time, making photographs? Excellent.
You will find a full list of everything here.
