Carters Steam Fair

Carters Famous Royal Berkshire Steam Fair to give it its full title is a traveling funfair in the style of the grand showmen of old.

Carters is the result of the late John Carter's passion for collecting old and interesting items, discarded by the owners, as being too unfashionable or too derelict to preserve. Over the last thirty years a whole funfair has been collected, complete with historic vehicles to transport it from site to site, with vintage living vans to complement the show.

Carters Steam Fair travels around London and the South East of England, for seven months of the year. The other five months are spent in a frenzy of restoration, painting and repairing the attractions. Such great old machines as: Chair-O-Planes, Victory Dive Bomber, Swingboats, Steam Yachts, Slip, Ark, Dodgems, Gallopers, Octopus, Dobbies, Toy Town, Austin Cars, Train Ride, plus many, many classic side stalls too and a collection of beautiful fairground organs to boot.

And all powered by steam! Photographs to be found under steam fair here.
